LOIMU CASTING

Loimu is a bronze cast foundry which was established in 2014. The word Loimu is Finnish and means "Blaze". 

The Foundry was created with the idea of collaboration and providing a workshop for artists to explore the possibilities in lost wax bronze cast and straight firing and casting natural materials as they are.

Over the years, as the demand has grown Loimu has expanded to work mainly with commissions with a skilled casting grew, from silicone mold making and casting to welding bigger work build together and finished patination. 

The firing of the investment cast molds is done in a side load kiln. Interior measurements are approximately 1 X 1 m allowing multiple molds to be fired at the same time.

The Foundry was established in 2014 and is run by Katri Paakkari, Artist and Sculptor who studied at Kankaanpaa Polytechnic and achieved an MA in Fine Arts at Falmouth. She is specialized in mold making with different kinds of materials, RTV silicons and life casts. Loimu works as her own studio and workshop and Paakkari's background as sculptor with 20 years of experience enables her to understand what artists are seeking in the final cast.  

The space is for creating and exploring, producing high level new work and satisfying the artists needs. Work can be created from the small scale to public installations. Bespoke commissions for other sectors such a sailing can also be fabricated.
